This is actually the first recipe that I made from The alli Diet Plan and it made me pretty darn pleased. I’m not interested in any diet that makes me eat things that don’t taste good. So I was relieved when I sat down to eat and I could honestly say that I really enjoyed the meal. It made me feel optimistic about my ability to stick with this plan of eating while keeping me feeling healthy and satisfied.
What I love about the taste of this dish is the juxtaposition of the chili powder and the cinnamon, the sweet red onion and the hot pepper, and the dry couscous and the creamy black-eyed peas. Every flavor is in balance and if you are careful not to overcook the shrimp their soft sweetness compliments everything else.
I served it with couscous in order to round out the meal. I’m thinking of adding okra or green beans next time to add in some more veggies. But that would only make it better because it’s very good to begin with. I even made extra the last time I made it so that I could have leftovers to eat. Dinner tomorrow will be as good as it was last night!
