Caprese Salad

This salad is about as easy as it gets to prepare. The trickiest part is finding good quality ingredients. This is going to be true whenever you are making anything that has only a small number of ingredients. Mediocre items don’t have anything to hide behind so everything has got to be as good as it can be.

Make sure you get a nice fresh mozzarella that is floating in water. This is going to make the biggest difference in your salad. From there nice organic tomatoes and basil will be worth the extra cost, in my opinion. Some high quality extra virgin olive oil will finish it off perfectly.

Oh, and the next day, any leftovers make fantastic sandwiches. Cold or pressed and melted, it will be a treat.

Caprese Salad

  • 3 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 lb fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1 large sprig of fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • Slice the tomato and mozzarella into pieces that are roughly equal in thickness.
  • Arrange the mozzarella slices on a plate and top each with one piece of tomato and a leaf or two of fresh basil.
  • Sprinkle it with the salt and then drizzle with the oil.
  • Serve.
